The First Muse of Vaudeville

In the history of live art few have been able to make as big an impact as that of Miss April Dawson.

While only tiny in dimensions she is without question the most gifted and well trained contortionist, acrobat and circus all rounder in Australia today. But more to the point, April has amassed more recognition in her short time as a circus artist in Melbourne than most do in a lifetime simply for her transfixing ability to literally hypnotise her audience through her breath taking beauty, poise and grace.

We took the first muse of the vaudeville world aside and asked her the famous five questions as she limbers up and prepares for her performance at Speakeasy HQ’s Grand Opening TONIGHT at 8pm!!

Where are you from?
I grew up in Busselton in the South West of Western Australia.

How long have you been performing?
I spent all of my childhood doing dancing and gymnastics so I guess you could say I’ve never not been performing. I started performing circus at 15 when i was spotted doing some acrobatics in the dark on the street and was asked to join Lunar Circus. I joined the show a week later and then went on the leave school and travel all over the place with them.

Where did you get your training?
I did my training on the road with the circus, learning from different members and participating in numerous festivals and classes along the way. I’ve learned so much from so many people in my life but I guess its the spirit of learning that helps me take advantage of all the amazing lessons life has given me.

Where do you get your inspiration as an artist?
I get most inspired by those around me. I love seeing the hard work and passion go into their art and seeing the enjoyment that both the audience and performer gets out of it.

What will you be performing at Speakeasy HQ?
I’ll be performing adagio with my partner Kyle.
