But rather than singing the praises of an artist who needs no introduction, we took her aside for a moment to ask her a bunch of questions and see what makes her tick as she prepares for next Saturday’s show!!

Who are you and what led you to becoming what you are today?

My name is Miss Vondykei am an alternative model, clothing designer and aspiring performer from Melbourne. I’m obsessed with glamour, horror, rock & roll and all things glitter. I strive to entertain and enchant and leave people with a magical feeling of wonder, fear and maybe even a little tingle of something strange. I was first attracted to burlesque and comedy came naturally with burlesque

What was the first moment when you thought to yourself… ‘I could go pro at this!!’.

The first time I danced on stage at first I was so scared but then I was addicted to the thrill and knew it was a world I wanted to be apart of.

What would you like to be remembered for in 100 years time?

fun times and glitter filled antics!

If you could spend a day with one famous person, from history or now, who would it be and what would you do?

its so hard to choose just one person, but one role model i would love to have the chance to meet is the lovely Dita Von teese, i’d  ask her how she creates such a magical glamorous world on stage.

What will the audience see when you perform at Speakeasy HQ?

The audience will be taken into a world of sexy but strange, glamorous but dirty a world of twirling swirling glitter filled excitement.

We can’t wait to see the stunning Miss Vondyke live on stage at Speakeasy HQ and The Blind Tiger on October 11th!!  Buy your tickets now online for $25 or purchase them on the door for $30.  Ticketing information at: http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=87968

Walking the Fine Line Live at Nuevo!!

IMG_6266.JPG

On Friday 26th of September Speakeasy Nuevo will present its first ever wire walker Live at Nuevo!!

Known not only for her Hollywood good looks, apparent grace and charm, Miss Vespa Magenta is one of the most talented wire walkers performing on the vaudeville circuit today!! We couldn’t me more excited about bringing Miss Magenta to the stage to perform her breat taking show for us on Friday night!! So we took Vespa aside and asked her a bunch of questions to see what makes her tick as she readies the rope for her debut at Speakeasy Nuevo!!

Who are you and what led you to being a circus performer?

I am Vespa Magenta, hula hooper and tightwire walker – sometimes at the same time! I used to play with hula hoops in primary school and have now found myself in this amazing circus world I never new existed back then!

What was the first moment you thought ‘I could go pro at this!!’

I used to practice in the park and strangers would come up to me and ask if I performed anywhere…I didn’t, but then I thought maybe I could.

What would you like to be remembered for in 100 years.

For being kind and loving and ‘that girl with the hula hoops!’

If you could spend a day with one famous person, from history or now, who would it be and what would you do?

Shaun Micallef. He’d tell me glorious stories and be all round entertaining but I’d never be sure if the stories were actually true.

What will the audience see when you perform at Speakeasy Neuvo?

Basically Monty Python silly walks on a tightwire, though I hope it’s a little more sassy!

If anyone can make a Monty Python Silly Walk look sexy it’s Vespa Magenta!!

Don’t miss your chance to see her perform wire walking Live at Nuevo!! Tickets are limited and available at: http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=90026

Purdy-Absurdist Comedy

995620_10151997474544580_1448168032_n

On September 26th, Live at Nuevo, one comedian will be making an absurd debut to the Speakeasy stages.  known as the inventor of the Purdy-Abserdist comedy style, Ross Purdy will be bringing a whole new kind of schtick to the stage to entertain the Speakeasy Nuevo audience.

Seated in the midst of a vaudeville line up that includes short films projected onto the big screen, sideshow, burlesque, circus and cabaret acts, Mr Purdy’s out there sense of funny is one that will be framed perfectly on the night!

So we took the funny man aside ans asked him a bunch of questions to see just how absurd he thinks it’s going to get, as he readies the rubber chicken for his September 6th performance!

Who are you and what led you to becoming a comedian?

I’m singer/songwriter Eric Clapton and I wrote the song “Layla” as a sort of love letter to my best friend George Harrison’s then wife Pattie Boyd. Music history has since ignored the collapsing effect this had on my career, which forced me to change my name and start a new career as a car mechanic After spelling out a sort of love letter with motor oil to my best friend Harry Gates’ then wife Liza Williams, my car fixing days were over. Now I’m ready to move onto my new career endeavor: a stand up comedian, by the name of “Ross Purdy”. One of my stand up routines is a sort of love letter to my best friend Derrick Smith’s wife Linda Hammerberg. It could go either way… but at least there will be witnesses, so gathering the testimonies for the court case shouldn’t be too hard, I guess.

What was the first moment when you thought to yourself… ‘I could go pro at this!!’

When I was walking along the city streets late one night, a group of violent youths set upon me. And by “violent youths” I mean a group of malevolent clowns. The clowns left me bloody, bruised and toothless. They sold my teeth to the dentistry black market. One dollar per tooth. As I crawled along barely alive from the clown-town beat down, I weakly cried for help, when a passerby began to laugh. This is when I thought I could go pro.

What would you like to be remembered for in 100 years time?

As the first man to sweat ice cream. And the first man to sweat ice cream and then seek to monetize his freakish quality. And the first man to monetize his ice cream sweat to and to then invent a way to excrete sprinkles… oh… no – wait… too far?  “I put figurative blood, literal sweat and figurative tears into this!” the wordy slogan will read. The health department will then see this and shut me down, losing me millions of dollars. This will be my legacy, as well as my nightmare.

If you could spend a day with one famous person, from history or now, who would it be and what would you do?

Rock star GG Allin. I would want to talk about the history of rock n’ roll and then move onto deeper fare, like the societal effects our culture of rampant consumerism and the control of the mass media has on the common man. He’d probably just run around the restaurant naked, rubbing poop all over himself. I’d have to say “Calm down GG, down boy!” to which he’d probably respond by defiantly wrapping himself around the top of a lamp post wailing at the pigeons down below on the sidewalk. We could probably get another “Murder Junkies” album out of it though.

What will the audience see when you perform at Speakeasy Nuevo?

A man whom has long since lost touch with reality trying to reconnect with the world he isolated himself from a long time ago…… And copious amounts of dick jokes and references to ‘80s pop stars.

We can’t wait to see the head spinning and absurd antics of the Purdy-Abserdist superstar, Ross Purdy, live at Nuevo on September 26th!

Tickets are limited and available through pre-sale at:  http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=90026

Single, 54, On the Dole, But FUNNY!!

1921972_332636486907624_817457349291972976_n

When you’re single and still on the dole at 54 you need to have a good sense of humor.

On September 26 Speakeasy Nuevo will be leveling the audience with the hilarious stand up comedy of Liza Dezfouli! Taking the stage for the first time at a Speakeasy Nuevo show, Liza will be performing right there, slap dab in the middle of the wildest 10-act vaudeville show in town! So, we took the funny lady aside to ask her a few questions and see what makes her tick as she prepares her shtick for when she goes live at Nuevo!

Who are you and what led you to becoming a comedian?

A I’m a self-proclaimed middle-aged slut who’s trying to get laid. Just don’t call me a cougar.

What was the first moment when you thought to yourself… ‘I could go pro at this!!’

I did a spot in a bar on Smith St in 2009. Scott Brennan was there and was very encouraging. He told me to put together a show for the comedy festival and make myself known to Janet McCleod. Thanks Scott!

What would you like to be remembered for in 100 years time?

My wit, of course. The 21st century’s Dorothy Parker. Or at least as a friend of Dorothy’s…

If  you could spend a day with one famous person, from history or now, who would it be and what would you do?

Dorothy Parker – we’d drink together and I’d record everything she said and use it myself.

What will the audience see when you perform at Speakeasy Nuevo?

The miraculous transformation of corrosive rage and bitterness into hilarity. Acidic revenge can make for comedy gold… Now that Joan’s dead someone needs to do it!

We can’t wait to see Liza go live at Nuevo on September 26th!  Tickets are essential so get on line and avoide dissapointment!!  Tickets: http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=90026
