Darkness Falls on HQ as Nemesis Beings the Black!

There’s something just so beautiful about some of life’s darkest corners. Ad this Halloween Speakeasy HQ will turn it’s stage over to a young Starlet of the Burlesque stage who’s dark beauty has created a stunning new breed of performance that will thrill our Halloween audience.

We took the princess of shadows aside to throw a bunch of questions at her and see what makes her tick as she readies her shimmy and prepares her pasties for this week’s performance.

Who are you and how do you describe your performance?

I am Nemesis Divina. I describe my performance style as Burlesque macabre. Dark and creepy with Gothic overtones. A great excuse to indulge my favourite genre. Horror.
With this particular act. I’ve drawn heavily on the Victorian showgirl aesthetic and other issues common of that era. Ie. Dying of consumption, being posed for a post mortem photograph, etc.

If you were born 100 years ago what would you need to do differently to perform your act in that day and time?

Well, rather than use the blood capsules to feign coughing up blood. Chances are, I probably would’ve actually had consumption for real 100 years ago and would possibly have coughed up real blood!

If you had to dress up as your favorite living or dead celebrity this Halloween who would it be and what would you wear?

Marie Antoinette. Unoriginal I know… I would make sure my head was sewn back on with very crude and obvious stitching. My neck wound seeping and bloody. My hair would be as high as the ceiling and my dress, ridiculously big!

If you could perform a 3-5 minute vaudeville act for just one person from history, who would it be and what would you perform?

Not sure about this one.
I would like to perform for Edgar Allan Poe though. I have a feeling he would ‘get me.’

What will the audience see when you perform at Speakeasy HQ?

The audience will see a Gothic horror/drama portrayed in a very contemporary way. What will begin as a seemingly innocent and light hearted, pretty performance, will inevitably take a darker path as she succumbs to consumption. The piece will then become quite abstract as she gradually and awkwardly, transitions into death.

We can’t wait to see Nemesis Divina performing live at Speakeasy HQ this FRIDAY night!! Tickets are essential an available at: http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx?eid=87968
